THE GLOBAL VOICES AT THE GHANA CENTRE FOR CHINA STUDIES
On July 18, 2025 Cathy Lisa Schneider, American author and Professor Emerita at the American University, shared with the Ghana Centre for China Studies her perspective on U.S.-China relations.
US China Relations is not my specialty but what I can say is that under Trump all international and multinational businesses will suffer as he is committed to high tariffs and opposed to global trade. Businesses with ties to China, like those with ties to Canada, EU and Mexico will suffer. EU and Canada are seeking to maintain a global economy that will leave the United States alone and outside WTO. What many Marxists think about the relationship between capital and states is wrong. States set the parameters under which businesses operate. The United States is moving towards a quasi fascist regime in which pleasing Trump has become a priority for many businesses.
