Founder’s Message

Greetings!

Our world today is fraught with daunting challenges including misinformation and disinformation. A recent United Nations survey conducted in 16 countries including the U.S., India, Ghana, Mexico, Belgium, Indonesia and Austria, suggest 85 percent of the respondents are worried about the impact and influence of misinformation on their fellow citizens, a figure that reaches 88 percent in countries with high levels of Human Development Index (HDI) and 90 percent in those with medium or low HDI. Often used interchangeably, misinformation, thus, inadvertent spread of inaccurate information, and disinformation which refers to false information deliberately propagated to mislead others, the two, pose significant risks to our world today.

At the Ghana Centre for China Studies, we strongly believe by presenting authoritative interpretation of China’s domestic and foreign policies, carried out in a joint collaboration with internationally renowned scholars, seasoned industry experts and leading organizations in China and around the world, we stand a better chance of supporting various groups including researchers and policymakers to rise above misinformation and disinformation, especially on China-related issues. By collaborating with researchers from the world’s top-ranked universities, policymakers, foremost industry experts and beyond, the Ghana Centre for China Studies helps advance knowledge on China, and deepens understanding between the Chinese and the rest of the world.

Over the past 5 years, our publications on China have been widely cited by high-quality scholarly works globally, and republished by leading newspapers, government agencies and international organizations in more than 170 countries worldwide. By advancing research on China, the Ghana Centre for China Studies aims to support policymakers worldwide to ground policy decisions, especially on China in high-quality research. We believe through this means, policymakers could make informed decisions that lead to desired outcomes. Also, by encouraging collaborations with various parties in China and around the globe, the Ghana Centre for China Studies seeks to foster global cooperation to support progress in key areas including climate change, technological innovation, and sustainable development.

As the founder, I am truly humbled to know that our collective effort at the Ghana Centre for China Studies is advancing knowledge and understanding of China.
